The Estonian scene has given us some surprisingly great music in recent years – and the sounds of the Estrada Orchestra have certainly been at the top of that new wave of records! The group's led by bassist Misha Panfilov – who's also been the producer behind a lot of other recent records, but who here works in a much more freewheeling mode – creating these long tracks with the Estrada group that are somewhere in a space between spiritual and loft jazz modes of the 70s! Tracks are all long, and feature a mix of ensemble jamming and more outside solo moments – played by a lineup that includes Sasha Petrov on tenor, Ilja Gussarov on flute, Madis Katkosilt on drums and percussion, and Volodja Brodsky on some especially nice Wurlitzer piano! The album begins with the moody "Liberation" piece, which is relatively outside – the follows with the Afro funky "Pulsar", in which the piano really takes off – then ends with the long "What Is Content", a nicely introspective piece with more great piano and some especially nice flute. © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
